Frank's journey
"About Me"
Frank Banksy has been making the planet dance for over 3 decades.
His interest in dance music began with collecting disco, soul and funk records in the late 1980s.
He started to DJ using a custom-made turntables and a tape machine, spending his time sitting late into the evening, listening to such shows as John Peel and the early days of The Essential Mix in order to create short DJ style mixtapes.
Growing up in the Highlands of Scotland, he was heavily influenced by his older brother who would travel south to London and return with mixtapes from (at the time) little known artists like John Digweed and Sacha. This was at a time when most of his friends in the area were still listening to breakbeat or hardcore.
However, it wasn’t until a couple of French teenagers produced an album in 1997 (Daft Punk Homework Album) and hearing, for the first time their very first Essential mix, it was then that Frank Banksy was hooked on that super sampled French Disco sound.
Frank Banksy arrived in 1997 and has been gracing the ears of House Music fans ever since.
This style of DJ’ing, blending old school samples of funk, soul, hip-hop, electro, house and techno to create an eclectic mix of sounds heavily influenced Frank Banksy’s DJ’ing style for many years to come.
Starting off as a bedroom DJ, Frank Banksy would prefer Dj’ing at the after parties which would allow his eclectic style of old and new be appreciated by an ever-growing fan base.
Wanting to stay part of the music industry, Frank Banksy went on to train as an Audio Engineer, later to work as a Production and Tour Manager, allowing him to travel and gain not only influences from around the world but also to get the opportunity to work alongside artists and musicians from all walks of life.
Fast forward to 2022 and Frank Banksy now has relaunched himself as a Radio Presenter. Hosting three separate shows covering his eclectic tastes from Disco to House, from Soul to Funk to Chillout and Downtempo.
